The Broadway Association celebrated its 100th Anniversary at the Annual Awards Luncheon on Thursday, May 5, 2011 in the Broadway Ballroom of the Marriott Marquis. Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former mayors Ed Koch, David Dinkins and Rudolph Giuliani were the Broadway Association's honorees for championing the restoration of Times Square. In addition, the Association honored Helena Durst, Vice President of the Durst Organization, in recognition of her grandfather Seymour Durst (1914-1995) and his service to the Association as its Chairman from 1974-1988. Dan Lauria and Judith Light from the hit Broadway show LOMBARDI co-hosted and Tony-award winning actress Christine Ebersole performed.

Congratulations to new member Sally Chironis, co-owner of La Silhouette restaurant at 362 W. 53rd, for the glowing review in the April 18th issue of New York Magazine. The magazine awarded the restaurant 2 stars and had this to say: "If you're weary of gnawing on trendy, overpriced comfort foods, a quiet dinner at La Silhouette offers all sorts of other vanished, reaffirming pleasures." The fresh-baked bread, fresh ingredients, daily-made pastas, well-priced wine list, and elegant deserts all contributed to one Francophile's comment after eating at La Silhouette: "I'm a happy man."
Ken Barrows Joins The Broadway Association
Ken Barrows, President of Leisure Pass LLC., is the newest member of The Broadway Association. Mr. Barrows and his team of savvy New Yorkers created the New York Pass, a unique way to experience New York and its iconic attractions. At our March 1st luncheon, guest speaker Joe Daniels, President and CEO of the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, updated Association members on plans for the opening of the Memorial. After Mr. Daniels' report, many of our members expressed interest in supporting the Memorial and Museum through its Signs of Support initiative, whereby businesses can display the 9/11 Memorial decal in storefront windows and on websites. Broadway Association Member Michael Presser of Inside Broadway was presented with the 2010 TRU Humanitarian Award at a benefit at Caroline's Comedy Club. The award was presented by TRU (Theater Resources Unlimited) Executive Director Bob Ost. Inside Broadway, with Michael Presser at the helm for 29 years, introduces New York City's young people to the excitement of musical theatre.
Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe, Cultural Affairs Commissioner Kate Levin, Hal Prince, Times Square Alliance, Theatre Development Fund, Broadway Leaugue and the Broadway Association co-hosted an event in Duffy Square to honor Mayor John V. Lindsay's contributions to the Broadway Theatre, which included creation of the TKTS Booth. Members of Mayor Lindsay's family were present to unveil the plaque that will hang in Duffy Square. The program was followed by a reception at Blue Fin.
Broadway Association Chairman Cristyne Nicholas and Vice President Harry Coghlan were honored at Inside Broadway’s 2010 Beacon Awards, which was held at the Players. The evening also celebrated Broadway’s Billy Elliots, Katie Finneran from Promises Promises and Antony LaPaglia from Lend Me A Tenor.
